Will PPF Lift Paint?

Hi Gents

Been in and out of the body shop for over 3 months getting my magno car repainted. Finally the paint looks to my satisfaction but the place that put my PPF on repainted panels didn't do a very good job. I have a spot under driver side window trim that has lifted and appears to have dirt accumulating underneath it. The paint job is fairly fresh ~2 weeks. I just went through hell and back to get the paint right and I'm terrified to have them peel this PPF and re-do it... what are the odds it'll lift the new paint? Would you guys chance it?

My understanding is that new paint needs some time to cure properly - 30 days minimum before PPF. If your PPF installer knew what he was doing he would have told you to wait until the paint is at least a month old.

Hey Im about to get my magno grey e63s repainted also, any tips for me? How good did the body shop do matching the paint?

Also if you are going to remove the PPF use hot water to loosen it as you pull so the paint won't come off with it.

This is also what my body shop told me when they painted my rear chrome trim and trunk spoiler. Your professional installer will likely use hot water/steam to remove and it might be fine if the PPF is still fresh.

I verified with the body shop that the paint was adequately cured for ppf. They use a special process and the paint is baked for a very long time. That’s what they told me anyways and that it wouldn’t lift. I didn’t chance it and ended up trimming the lifted portion. Didn’t want to chance it

What are you getting repainted? My advice is to sell the car! lol. Wish I was lying man, this was the worst experience ever dealing with this paint. It was in the shop 2 different times for mismatched paint. This is at an elite certified mb dealership as well that supposedly do magno paints often. As soon as you paint a panel, one of the ones next to it will be slightly off. Only way for it to be truly perfect is to repaint the whole car. I’ll honestly never buy another matte vehicle ever again.
