E63s 2018

I’m thinking getting this used e63s amg and it has 76k km. I want to daily it too. I have considered all the costs except for maintenance and repairs. I want to hear other people’s thoughts on this too

The W213 is known to have a problem with a RMS leak. To fix they need to replace the RMS + the oil separators (separators reportedly cause the problem). Cost is somewhere between $4K and $8KUS. Check with your dealer or repair shop as to how much it will run. In addition to the RMS issue, my W213 had a motor mount fail. IDK how much that would cost (they ended up replacing both under warranty) but they had it for 2 months trying to get parts.

It is a blast to drive and I DD mine.

for brakes, if you want OEM, they are very expensive, the rotors in particular. Excessive tire wears, for the front would be a high concern.

2018 AMG E63s Ed1
<== 142,000+ miles and counting on my Ed1 E63s.

Normal wear and tear items. Take the car drifting and then price goes up exponentially.

For CCB, the rotors are still OEM. Pads have been replaced at about 20k-30k miles. I DIY PADs myself.

In a week or two, it will get the winter tires on.

Maintenance is done on time or slightly before by indie shop.

That's amazing.
Have you done the thermostat ?
I have seen that it's a real issue to replace do to corrosion.

2021 e63s

I don’t know. I’m also considering the 2021 e63s and there’s one with a beautiful spec and only 28k kms. But it’s 35k more and i would be paying much more but I’m guessing it would be more reliable than the higher mileage one

Will you spend $35k in repairs on the 2018?

i would roll the dice on the 2018 after the appropriate PPI, compression test, etc, and obtaining an fidelity warranty to cover a future rms repair. I would also consider pre negotiating the repair price for a short term with the seller if it's a dealer and you'll use them for the RMS repair.

consider this poor guy:

There will be hundreds of "I wanna buy a used 2018-2023 e63" posts over the next few years and likely very few of the thread starters will do the requisite tests/inspections/research before their purchase to protect their cash and more important their quality of life as they deal with the stress of "multiple misfires and CEL"

Well obviously I most likely won’t be but the 2021 does come with 2 more years of warranty. Also the 2018 is in a different province but I have driven the 2020 model and I was told it’s basically the same. The 2021 is also a bit more comfortable and probably more livable for a daily. All comes down to personal choice most likely.

some have spent $35k+ in warranty repairs but never out of pocket. Unknown unknowns are not obvious.

https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/...60k-miles.html

so obviously the price doesn't matter to you based on this post, so the logical answer would be a newer car, the more comfortable car, the lower miles, the car closer to me distance wise, one that is less likely to have the RMS/OVS issue, and of course after it passes all the requisite inspections.

good luck in your 2021 e63S
