Map update in 2018 AMG E53 is a massive Pain In The ****!!

Hey guys,

I've had my Japanese E53 AMG Wagon updated and region changed but now trying to get the car to recognise the USB map updates is a massive pain!!!

I've used Download Director and downloaded the correct maps for my NTG and Country,

I'm using a new 16gb 2.0 USB flash drive, the laptop and MB director software worked fine and transferred the new map data onto it

The flash drive is formatted as NTFS also.

When I plug it into the car the system doesn't know there is a USB stick in either port??

I have the system in Menu/Navigation screen so it's ready and waiting but nothing happens.

Am I missing a step here

Wondering if my files are only updates and not a base load to kick it off, like it's missing an .exe file or something,

The car was originally loaded with Japanese maps and I'm trying to overwrite with Aussie maps, could that be an issue?

Thanks & Cheers!

If your Comand is NTG4.5/7, then maybe you should format the USB like FAT32.

My car is fitted with a NTG 5.5 unit, it's the same as 2019 and beyond sold in USA UK etc, Japan for some reason always gets the model a year before other markets.

My bad, sorry

Your USB panel works? Can play music or Carplay?

The region change for NTG5.5 could be incomplete as from Japan is quite complicated.

Yeah great. It's been a really slow process but the guy I'm working with has done amazing work. Change the FM radio from Japan's narrowband 88.1 to 89.9. so now it's 88 1 to 107.3 which I was told was impossible. He's converted the car to be australianized with the latest software updates for Australia which made a massive improvement to the car engine and gearbox. It's just the maps that are causing us a massive headache
