MB USA Parts Shortages

I recently had my 2021 E63S serviced. When picking it up, my service advisor told me that there was an error logged in Xentry relating to the water pump requiring a new pump. Strange as I have no coolant temperature issues however I may as the weather gets hotter. I am still under warranty so no cost to me however he told me that they are not in stock. He then went on to show me a spreadsheet of 20-30 parts that are all not in stock and have not been for up to a year. It has been two months and no news on the replacement pump... Apparently this is an increasingly worrying trend. Has anyone else experienced something similar with parts not being available?

I've noticed the same thing... a large number of parts for my W220 are listed as not available. I thought it was illegal in the USA to stop selling service parts within 10 years of production? I thought the parts may be discontinued, but it sounds like they're likely just "not available". I suppose they'll conveniently be not available for the next 5 years, and then they'll be permanently discontinued!

Unfortunately the law is really not for “all” parts, or even critical parts. Secondly, the 220’s newest model is 19 years old.

Sometimes it's just a matter of the cost involved in stocking replacement parts. Most dealerships (all brands) rely on regional warehouses from which to draw parts and when inventory forecasts are off, parts become unavailable, and it's anyone's guess as to when out of stock items become available. You could search online for an OE replacement, as you can be assured your dealer is searching no further than its designated regional distributor.
