PSA: My Wireless Carplay/Charging Solution
For charging, I combined the below products to create a stable mount and MagSafe wireless charging solution, which leverages powerful magnets and the vertical line to help with stability and optimal placement.
Mount - Charger -
I ran the cable tucked between the trim behind the mount and along the passenger side of the center console to the rear passenger 12v port, which i'm using a low-profile/flush-fit USB-C 12v charger to provide max 15w charging capability. The cables are barely visible from the drivers seat. I had to use a short usb-c extension cable with right-angle connector to allow for neater routing of the cable and to reach all the way back to the 12v port.
The phone being directly in front of the vents means the airflow/AC doubles as cooling for the phone, meaning it doesn't overheat when charging (the main issue with any wireless car charging!). If it's cold out and I need the heat on max, I simply point the vent away from the phone but generally any airflow will help with keeping the phone from overheating so it's probably only necessary if the heat is on full blast (I've yet to see a warning about overheating from my phone if I forget to move the vent with this setup but probably not a bad idea as a precaution). The phone has never fallen off this mount, even when driving hard, and I suspect it's the proper implementation of MagSafe that uses all available magnets, combined with a case that supports this (Dbrand Ghost).
For wireless CarPlay, I finally settled on the Carlinkit Mini Ultra Wireless CarPlay & Android Auto Adapter after trying a few different options, as it works very well, boots up fast and is small enough to not get in the way of using the cup holders or anything else in the compartment - the usb port will thank me for not constantly jostling cables plugged into it when using the cup holders!
Maybe 1 time out of 20, the screen will be blank (usually after using backup/360 cameras) but it's easily fixed by going "Home" and then back into CarPlay. Audio never cuts out and using the UI feels as smooth as if it was hard-wired, even with the compartment lid closed. Forgive the dusty/dirty compartment, it needs a good clean!
