Thoughts on 2012 CLS63 vs. used 2010 Panamera Turbo

Greetings to All,

I searched the archives, but failed to find any meaningful posts. So here are my questions.......

Anybody have any thoughts on the merits of a lightly used Pana Turbo vs new CLS63???? I'm coming out of a 2006 E55 which I have loved, but it is starting to show its age with maintenance issues.

How would the two compare performance wise? Handling wise??

Is it a moot point, as I am 6 foot 4? Do I have to get an E63 if I want to stay with a Mercedes???

I'm open to any and all constructive thoughts. Best regards to all.

Wolf

2006 CLS55 AMG Sold 2010 E550 Coupe totaled '13 SL550 current and loving it!
There was an article in one of the car mags (can't remember which one) and the new CLS beat the Panny. It really depends on what you are looking for. Go drive them both and decide which suits you better.

The CLS 63 is jus right for me as i am 6'3 but don't be expecting too much head space. the car is amazing to drive and i like the CLS more as i was in a dilemma too a few weeks ago deciding between - Panamera Turbo S, CLS 63 and the 2012 M5

I had a 2006 CLS55 and currently have a Panny S (neither are the turbo's)

here are my observations - had the CLS for 4 years and the Panny for 1
  • This is a close call - but I think the CLS is better value for money (New vs New)
  • Must get the Panny Turbo - my biggest mistake was not getting it. After the 55k motor it felt really flat by comarison
  • Panny is way,way biggger inside - similar in size to S class - no rear seat issues for tall guys as I experienced with the CLS. Still only a 4-seater.
  • CLS is prettier initially, but Panny really grows on you, and is still more unique compared to CLS
  • Fit and trim of Panny is excellent - didnt have the minor irritants I had with the CLS
  • Pperformance of Panny and CLS turbo engines should be close - both have access to quality aftermarket tuners for significant gains
  • Interior in Panny is really great - a step up from my CLS
  • Porsche service is exceptional (depends on dealer) - real white glove treatment
  • Took some time getting used to the differences in PCM menu and key side
  • Also do not like the shift buttons on the Panny Sterring wheel or the counter intuitive gear lever movement in manual mode:- push-forward-to shift-up and pull-backwards-to-shift-down. Its backwards IMHO. The MB left-right is not much better but still felt more intuitive.
  • Miss the MBworld community - Panny forum is not nearly as active at 6-speed
  • Porsche aftermarket products are generally very expensive
