Selling the wife's 2012 CLS63
We have decided to sell our 2012 CLS63 designo. Totally stock other than front marker lights. Right now the mileage is at about 33,500. No issues, no stories. Build date is 4/12, so it has the later intercooler W/Reservoir. I'm happy to answer any questions or help assist with a PPI.
Listed at $49,000

I wouldn't drop the price......it's not a car you see everyday, hell I've never seen another one in my town.

Price is fair, but its out of warranty and for an AMG its a "problem". Take it to MB of Sarasota and see if they'll come reasonably close to what you want for it and if so just sell it to them - a no hassle transaction.

Wow, great car! I wonder how can one reaps the benefit of sales tax saving with a trade-in as part of a private sale. I remember someone mentioned on the c63 forum that it can be done by having some individual process the paperwork for a fee, so the potential buyer can just sell the trade-in anywhere and buy the car from the private sale.
BTW, is there a cut off date or vin# when the cooling system gets divorced? I thought only '13 E63/CLS63 got that.

The problem trading the car to a Mercedes dealer is they will pay no more than auction (black book) price. Forget about KBB trade-in value, it's not reality. I had to relearn this again this month. So private sale, and hopefully private buy on my next purchase. The sales tax tariff will be thousands less than a wholesale trade-retail purchase transaction.
I'll try to find the VIN change on the inter-cooler improvement. I remember reading on this forum that it happened sometime after the first of the year, but it's been a while.

In my experience with them, I've sold (not just traded-in) cars to them twice and both times (the last time a year ago) they gave me more for the car (by 4.5% the last time) to buy it out right than a trade-in appraisal done just days before (yes it wasn't for a car you see on every corner, but neither is CLS63). Go figure. In any case its hard to sell privately an out of warranty AMG (I would never buy one - new engine itself is by far more than the car's price). Selling it to the dealer (even for low $40sK) takes care of private selling headaches.

I have no fear of buying one out of warranty, other than a known headbolt issue with the early '63's, the engines are very robust. The only scary part for me is the ABC suspension systems on the R230's and S class cars. Otherwise the AMG's and Mercedes in general I find are pretty reliable cars if not abused terribly and serviced on schedule. I have no fear "self insuring". Just have to pick the right one. My only beef is the depreciation on these cars. I've grown a bit weary getting beat up so bad when we decide to try something different. With a bit of patience I know I can save $10,000 between selling and buying. I used to do it all the time, I've just gotten lazy recently. Thank you for the suggestion, but I'll give this plan some time to work before selling/trading to a dealer.

If you were close to me I would consign it for you in my lot and charge you a small fee. ($1,500) and I would get you something close to your original price in retail.

That's a kind and generous offer tasho3. If the distance was not so great I would certainly take you up on it. At least it's good to hear that someone besides myself see's value in the car. Patience I believe is the key. If we don't see more interest in the next couple weeks I'll try Ebay or maybe Bat (Bring a Trailer). Ebay has a huge audience, but BaT has a serious following as well.

Ah, tires. There is no doubt that AMG's have a tire appetite. For me, Michelin's seems to hold up better than anything else I have tried. We've actually had more wear on the rears (camber wear) than on the fronts.

Price drop to $45,000. I cannot even get someone to look at this beautiful car.
I've been strung along for weeks by three different individuals who couldn't come up with the money.
What the heck is going on out there? I have never had such trouble selling such a quality vehicle!

Sorry, but I absolutely refuse to give any more tax to the govt than necessary. The system of taxing used goods is absolutely ridiculous, because it is basically taxing the same merchandise over and over. Used goods should at least have a lower rate of taxation.
