Race Chip Tuning

Anyone have any experience with the RACECHIP Tuning external mapping?

they are saying they can get almost 700 HP and 900 TQ and it is 1/3 the price of the Renntech.

just curious if it has been tried and tested by a real owner.

2014 CLS63 S
I've got it on my '14 CLS63 S and I am very happy with it for the Price until I get a tune. Good track results with the shipped setting at 2. I drive it daily on setting 6 with no issues using 93 octane. Will get it dyno'd next month before Tune to report the difference. Best track time so far was 11.13 @126 and that was on setting 2. It runs much harder on 6.

thats awesome. You might actually be in the 10s on setting 6 and running stronger than a proper ECU tune. How is this possible?

I am pretty sure I could get it into the 10s with a couple small tweaks. I need to lower the car, run race gas, turn it up and replace my motor mounts. I think it works really well on the S model because its taking the already added power/boost levels and multiplying it. On an ECU tune it seems the S and non S make the same power when tuned from what I've seen at least.

well an ECU tune is suppsed to making the most power it can from the engine up to redline. I don't get how the racechip makes more as the engine doesn't make more power when pushed beyond 19psi anyway which is what a good ECU tune is already doing.

race chip seems to have decent stuff. I tried their unit on a previous car and was pleased. I do know that Dinan is coming out with a box for the 63 variant cars in the next couple months. another forum member here is beta testing a unit on his car now for them. Id look at that!

My buddy has a CLS63 and his is stage 1 AMR tuned. I am not sure what the final number was, but I know that gain was around 120hp and 160tq above stock, which the butt dyno really enjoyed lol

Key word Supposed to. The RC and other piggyback units use a technique that just amplify the cars stock tune by intercepting the data from the chosen censors, tweaking certain parameters of that information the spiting it back to the ecu. Ecu takes the data and adapts accordingly based on that info. I'm guessing that's what it does. I could be waaay off.

As far as the boost I never see anything over 19 psi on my gauge.

Sounds interesting and pretty complex logic working there.

Cant wait to see if it can safely produce more power than full ECU tunes or not.

It sounds like there is a good chance it will at least match them when set to the highest setting it allows for. I always thought the ECU tunes were maxing out the most potential from the m157 at this point so i didnt think there was any other possible way to get more out of it from just software changes.

The engine is capable of producing plenty of power. The trans torque limits hold it back. It is what it is

Yea that I know but the race chip is definitely not changing anything in the TCU to unleash more power via torque limits.

sounds like a different way of making the same or more power through ECU somehow

I don't want to knock anyone from doing anything creative with their Benz but anything other than Renntech and Brabus seems very risky. Take my opinion with a grain of salt because I haven't executed any research on RCT. I just think that longevity and a history of remapping ECU's should count for something. Having a warranty on the labor and tuning is reassuring when a motor detonates or malfunctions due to software or hardware failure. All these things should be taken into consideration because any issues with RCT's product down the road could be most taxing!!!!!

also take a look at Eurocharged website, they offer their own warranty on their work and have a record of having reliable ECU tunes for benz as well.

There is no substitution for ECU tunes when comparing piggy backs. I will be going to EC for their stage 2 tune and I have no doubt it will out preform the Racechip unit.

Can you send me a link so I can check them out. I'm trying to get a feel for everything that's out there to be offered for the CLS63.

Dinan isn't quite out yet, but a beta tester in this forum has been quite thrilled with the unit thus far. Plus if it is the Elite Dinantronics unit it will carry their 4yr/50 k warranty which is the best in the industry. Might want to inquire with them on when it will be on the market
