Purchase Advice: CLS55 or CLS63
Hi,
I wanted to get your guys advice on the two cars I am debating between. A 2006 CLS55 with 43k miles of a CLS63 with 54k miles. I can get the CLS63 for about $4k more, i'm just wondering if it is worth it and should i be worried about the Mileage? How long do these AMG engines usually last?
Thanks in Advance!

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't the CLS55 and CLS63 both supercharged, just that the CLS63 they changed the engine to 7-speed and brakes (and some minor tweaks).
I just got a ML550 for my wife so I wanted to get another Mercedes but this will be my first one (wife car does not count b/c its hers I've had a Porsche 911 and Range Rover before and really wanted to get a CLS but has to be an AMG. Kind of a speed freak.
Thanks again for everyone's input!

63 is not supercharged.....55 is...63 is better if you are not into modding other than looks....55 is better if you want to mod the engine for more power.

Thanks for the info, glad i posted here because I didn't know that. As i just had a new baby boy, i dont' think i'll be doing much mods to the car so I am leaning more towards the CLS63. The only thing bothering me is the miles, do you think 54k miles is too much? How many miles do they usually last before it needs some major overhaul.
Thanks
Thanks

Im assuming that CLS63 is an 2007? That's a lot of miles on that car, I would have it thoroughly checked before I take a plunge. It's a good idea to purchase an extended service too... GL.

Yep its a 2007, that was my concern. The owner told me that is was fully serviced at 50k miles and he also told me that he would bring it to any Mercedes Dealership to have a full pre-purchase inspection, so that make me feel a little better about it. I do plan on getting an extended warranty through chrysler so I guess that bumps the price up another $3k or so.

This is the 2nd time I saw someone say that but why is the 55 better for modding/engine power? Is it because theirs more parts out for it at the moment and MB tuners work more on the 55 since it came out first? Is it going to be like this forever or later in time will the 63 come out with more performance parts since it is newer than the 55?

Good question, I think thats way too much mileage for an 07 CLS 63. How much do they go for at that mileage? I too would like to know how much mileage a car should be at annually. Also I'm looking for a CLS at the moment but my budget is around 50k (prefer 45k or less). I'm trying to decide 07 CLS 550 or 06 CLS 55. How much mileage do these cars go up to?

I can see why the 07 CLS 63 is around 45k because of the high mileage... but if you have the same budget as mine I think u can get a lower mileage CLS 55. I forgot to mention though that I am going to get mine COP instead of a private dealer/person or Manheim because I believe it's the safest route so my prices will be a bit higher I believe.

Here are my 2 cents on the CPO, You can still find a 2006 CLS55 under warranty, if you get a thorough inspection at the mercedes dealership and its all good, then just get an extended warranty through chrysler when the warranty runs out. Probably save a couple grand. I've bought my past two cars, the Porsche and Range Rover and neither of them did I purchased as a certified car, i just made sure that I had it fully inspected by the dealership and made them double-check everything. I always throw the guy doing the inspection a little more cash so he usually goes through every aspect of the car and doesn't bypass anything. That's just me though!
Good luck on your search!

E55 AMG
After long talks with MB Techinical people in regards to the 63 series engines vs. 55 series, the overwhelming majority concurred that the 55 series engines were able to withstand more abuse over longer periods of time. I know of 4 63 series cars- 2 s classes, an e and a c- all the engines **** out their nitrate coated valve guides- all cars had below 25k miles- my .02 - I would not take a gamble with a 63 series engine- or 7 speed trans. The 722.6 and 55k is a perfect match- hell, its in the SLR!

I'd go for the 55 any day. Have owned one since it came out and have done a lot of **** to mine and it held out . I have friends with 63's and I like mine better, ofcourse thats just me but my tuner at ASR Engineering feels the same way. They are just great cars.

M113K all day, we have to remember that the M156 6.2 AMG is still quite new so extensive aftermarket comparable to the 55K(M113K) market won't be for a while. When the first 55 SC cars were out there surely wasn't the list of mods available right out he bat. It took time for tuners, vendors, etc. to test, fabricate and restest for proof of performance and standards prior to releasing it to the public.
Ocpun, contemplating between a 07 CLS550 and a 06 CLS55, this isn't even a fair fight. Go with the AMG hands down. 5.5L all motor (382hp, 391 ft-lbs) vs. 5.4L Supercharged(469hp, 516 ft-lbs). The comparison easily can end and be decided right there.
Good choice Miami best, that CLS63 seems to have way high miles for such a short time, better off to get a lower mileage CLS55 + Extended Warranty. More low end torque out the factory and a very good aftermarket and having high potential powertrain is a great thing to have.

The 6.2 is a superior engine to the SC 5.4 engine. The 6.2 was developed by AMG versus the old single overhead cam 55 engine. Higher mileage on a 2007 indicate a lot of easy hiway miles, engine should be good for 500K miles so this mileage is not a problem. Newer is better with MB, problems with earlier MB models during the problem years. You should be good with 2007 and newer MB.

I'm sorry, but to say that is being extremely naive!!! Doesn’t matter where you get a car from as long as you perform detail inspection, you should be fine going through any of these channels. Don't get me wrong but your belief is plain wrong and based on nothing more than your feelings. There's no data that would support the fact that CPO cars are less likely to break down then not certified units that were well taken care of and accident free. CPO=Marketing Trick to make buyers such yourself more comfortable with purchasing an used car and at the same time be able to charge inflated price for virtually same product. Good luck!

Well I do not know any dealers to access Manheim and my only other option is CPO... how does one get a full inspection, do you have to bring the car to dealer and pay them?
