The silver-grille, where to buy??
Hey all!
I am desperatly looking for the silver-three-rib grill that is fitted to most of the CLS 63s.
Anyone know where to buy one? Or what art.number it has?
thanks

they did have it on ebay but wanted around $400 for it if i remembered correctly, dealer is probably almost the same price. there are people in this forum will probably sell theirs, since most switch that out. if i run into it again on ebay i will let you know. i think mBerman (mispelled) doesn't want his since i sold him my single fin awhile back.

Make me a nice offer and I'll sell you mine.

There's only a 1 fin grille and a 3 fins grille with chrome trims available for the CLS. The ones you are looking at are for other Mercedes models.

I cut and pasted a link to their 219 section and then the E stuff showed up. Sorry. lol. I must still have my old E class stuck somewhere.
Good luck on your search.

I bought and installed the 55tech silver 3-Bar Grille for my '07 CLS550 and am very happy with it. You can buy through the 55tech website, but they prefer to sell on ebay as "Buy it Now" and it is cheaper there. Here is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/W219-...item35a315a4fd It does not come with the chrome Mercedes center star. You need to reuse your existing one. There are no instructions and it is tricky to transfer the star, but most home mechanics can do it. If you proceed and need tips on installation, I'd be glad to share my experience. Such as you need to glue on the star and I found that epoxy glue for plastic worked best (I used Ace Hardware Brand). Super Glue did not work.
If you want a genuine Mercedes AMG grille, you can get that at GenuineMercedesParts.com http://genuinemercedesparts-px.rtrk....layCatalogid=0 at $560 without active cruise and $732 with active cruise. I have no ideas why active cruise control would have an affect on the grille, but they do offer two different part numbers. Oh, and the star is sold separately for an additional $57.

What's up guys. This is the part number for the distronic grille: 2198800383
I have that grill, and the star has a clear glass cover to allow the sensor to sit behind it, which makes the distronic feature function. I also have a part number for the distronic star alone that you can add to your regular grille. I can post it later if anyone wants it.

jikjak - The part number 2198800383 from the prior post is for a grille for a 2006-08 CLS500/550 without AMG Sport Package and with Distronic. The star is sold separarately, so I don't believe that part number will include the star. I thought you asked for the part number for the star. I don't know the part number for the star. I used the star from my original grille on my new 3 Bar grille. For a plain star (no distronic), other than the dealer the only places I know where you can buy one are at:
Genuine Mercedes Parts http://genuinemercedesparts-px.rtrk....layCatalogid=0
or Mercedes-Benz Parts Center http://www.mercedespartscenter.com/p...layCatalogid=0
You can find the star with distronic on their sites also.

thanks ill try to find it on those sites but if anyone does have a part number please post.
i have a damaged 09 grill and its basically the star that is broken. i didnt know i could just buy that part! i could have saved myself a bunch of money by just getting the star itself.
when u order the star only is it the whole black plastic star piece with the chrome?

I'm pretty sure that when you buy the star you only get the chrome star, not the black plastic housing. The links I gave take you to an illustration that shows the pieces. And they refer to the star and an emblem. And remember there are different parts for with and without distronic. The search I did was for a 2007 CLS550. That was the only CLS grille that had an illustration. I see you drive a CLS55. I believe the star would be the same, but you might want to check with the vendor before purchasing.
If you haven't removed the old star yet, you will find it challenging to remove. It's held on with six U shaped clips around the edges and a metal V shaped guide in the center. I used a dremel tool with a 1" disc cutter to cut the tabs. Then it just fell off. If you don't damage the tabs on the black plastic part, then the new one should just slide into place. If it doesn't fit tightly, then you may need to glue it on. That's what I had to do. I used "Epoxy Glue for Plastics" from Ace Hardware and it worked fine. Super Glue won't work. I put masking tape on the star and the black plastic part to keep glue from getting them.

just wanted to correct you on this. There is only one amg grille with distronic, which is the num that I posted. There is no 3 fin grille for a non amg sport package. Any 2006-08 CLS grille will fit any model, sport package or not.
