Washer method for dropping my 63 (yes i searched)
Hey guys,
I've been searching for some time now to try and find a good clear diy thread for the washer method to drop my cls 63 to no avail. I found a few thread with breif explanaitons and a picture here and there but nothing really helpful for someone new to MB, let alone the cls63.
I am very mechanically inclined but new to Mercedes so I just need abit of help here.

why dont you just use lowering links? they are easy has hell to install and adjustable

You have a few options if you want to lower an airmatic equipped MB...
1. You can purchase and install an electronic lowering module. Cost $$$$
2. You can purchase and install a set of lowering links. Cost $$$
3. You can use MB's Star Diagnostic system to lower it. Cost $$ (if you can get someone who has one or a dealer to perform the service)
4. You perform the "washer" method. Cost $
$... $10-$25
$$... $25-$300
$$$... $300-$500
$$$$... $1000+
Before we get into the "washer" method, you have to understand how the Airmatic system works...
The car uses a set of sensors, one on the back and two in the front (at each corner) to sense and control the vehicles ride height. These sensors are attached with one end on to the chassis and the other on a suspension components. By altering the length of the links between the sensors and their mounting tabs, you in essence are fooling the Airmatic's computer to readjust the height of the car (up or down).
Here's a random (pulled off the net) image of the OEM sensor, the link and how its mounted on a late model Airmatic equipped MB.
Here's how you would go about using the "washer" method on the same sensor.

The washer method will easily lower your car, but it can be a bit tedious to perform, as you may find yourself under the car several times to dial it in just right.
Getting back to how the Airmatic system works, if you can grasp the concept, understanding how and where to place the washers should be clear.

how about the rear ones? they don't look adjustable as many people say they are...

I had my CLS 55 lowered via Star Diagnostics at my local MB dealership. Including the alignment, the price was $300 + and I got the piece of mine of it being done correctly.
