Ok, so after days of research (hours sitting in my office ) it looks like you can buy the electronic board / panel that hold all the lights for 50$ and change instead of a WHOLE new light assembley. Has anyone replaced just the panel yet ..??
Here is the panel link ------

MBWorld Fanatic!
I had mine out once. Just take the trunk panels out of the way.Two small screwdrivers to pop the screw covers along the outer edge is all I remember,and buy yourself a set of small torx bits.

The hard plastic cover with the lock in needs to come out, fixed with push fittings you need to lever out, then the side moulded bits held with a couple of different push fittings. Then there's half a dozen nuts to take the complete light out and finally you can unscrew the bulb board from the back of it.

They're not normal tungsten bulbs and are soldered in, you need to replace the whole board bar the leds for the brake lights.

Time to start the tear down !! ill post pics of every step along the way this weekend once i start the project of replacing the blown light ! The panel comes just like this from the factory and cost me 50$ plus shipping. Lights are soldered into the board.

As Promised here you go !! each side took about 20 minutes to knock out ! WAY to easy ! Panel was 60 after shipping and everything. Not bad compared to what the dealer wanted and that was a WHOLE NEW TAILLIGHT ASSEMBLY ! what a joke ! lol
This is the right rear panel in the trunk - the piece is the Air pump unbolt it . there are 3 screws.
<br>
Tail light all popped out ! There where 5 screws holding in place (silver ones not the black ones )
<br>
Time for surgery. The black rubber sealer around just peels off and you place it back on when you reverse the process.
<br>
<br>
there are 3 hex screws in place you need to pull out and two RED and BLUE wires that slide off.
<br>
<br>
Contrary to what the manual says the bulbs WILL NOT EXPLODED if you take them out , the panel is NOT pressurized
<br>
replace the old panel with the new one and reverse the order of everything and your done !
