Does someone pay $35K for a stainless steel watch with "SHAQ" engraved on the back with the expectation that it will appreciate? Is there a tradition of such watch collecting? You never see, say, a Breguet Le Pétomane Edition, implying the merger of fine time piece and celebrity is a recent phenomenon.

The special edition AP pieces have been selling at premiums for years. In fact, this piece has recently come down quite a bit. In 2007 we sold sold many of these North of $50K.
