Spacers: which is better/safer?

I am boggled. What are the differences between these spacers from a safety stand point? I could see the obvious, but is one more safe than the other, or is one better than the other?

And since I'm making a post here anyways, what size spacers would be recommended to fit 18x8 and 18x9 rims with a 37mm offset all the way around on a R129 (97 SL600)?

Also how dangerous is it to 'floor' the car with spacers? How about drag racing the car with spacers?

Whatever you get make sure its a "hubcentric" spacer or you will have serious vibration issues.

Ones for a 4 bolt wheel , other for a 5 bolt.
