Tire sizing for 18x8.5 wheels

Can anyone recommend tire sizes for 18 x 8.5 wheels on a w209 CLK500? I was thinking 235/40/R18 (or 225) front, 245/35/R18 for the rear. I'm trying to avoid any nasty sidewall stretching in either direction.

Are you getting 18x8.5 on all 4 corners? If you want staggered setup, it should be 225/40/18 and 255/35/18. But it is not a good idea to put staggered tires on non-staggered wheels.

The wheels would be 18x8.5 all around. How would a 225 look on an 8.5" wide wheel? Any stretching?

Why is it bad to stagger tires on non-staggered wheels?

Thanks!

If for no other reason, you'll be able to rotate the tires a bit more easily.
