profile questions

would i have any issues with putting a pair of lower profile tires on the rear than on the front? for example 235/45/17 on front and 235/40/17 on back? Im thinking that eventually id like to have lower profile tires all the way around but its likely that i will replace in pairs.

Thanks guys for the input!

depends on the weather
the different aspect ratios would upset the cars handling, load capacity and electronics .... in short it's a bad idea

Question I'm unclear on this...

Forgive me, Luke, but I'm a little confused by your answer, since MBZ already does this on lots of their cars with the staggered setups. Of course the sizes suggested in the thread starter wouldn't be good because the overall diameters would be wrong, but so long as the rim width is compatible with the tire what is wrong with, e.g., 225/45/17 front and a 245/40/17 rear?

Or is your answer in the broader sense keyed to the idea that it's not recommended unless the manufacturer designed it that way?

Thanks!

but, 225/45-17 and the 245/40-17 are the same diameter and the wheels are different widths

Thumbs up So conceptually it's fine

So long as you do it properly, which is what I thought.

Thanks for the clarification.

yeah but your post read like you were going with 235/45-17 front and 235/40-17 rear on the smae size wheels and that will not work because the 235/40-17 is shorter and the sidewall deflection rates would be different front to rear
