Replace with same tire?

At 12,000 miles, my rear tires are worn out, while my front tires have lots of miles left in them. When I replace the rears, do I need to put on the same tires that I have on the front (SP9000s), or can I go to another tire like the S03?

(By the way, I expect my next set of rears to wear better because I won't turn off the traction control nearly as often now that the novelty has worn off.)

It will not be an issue if your car is a Tercel. But for a E55, I think you should better change the whole set. Differenent tires will give different performance/handling, have you ever seen people having 2 Eibach springs in the front and 2 H&R in the rear?

on our c36, the rears have already gone at 20k...there were s-01 expedias...now we have the rears with s-03, still waiting for the s-01 up front to wear out...it's much stickier than it was out back...
