Lowering suspension question?

Guys I want to drop my car so that I can only fit about one finger or so through the wheel well and I was wondering if just simply changing my springs will do this or do I need to replace anything else? I don't want this big huge gap in between the tire and the wheel well but at the same time I don't want to drop the car too much...what does everyone recommend?

lowering springs usually include an increase in spring rate (to prevent wheel for hitting the bump stop). this means the shocks have to work harder to dampen the motion of the spring. sometimes, the stock shocks are not up to the task and the car bumps up and down needlessly. u c this sometimes with ricers.

I have Eibach spring, 1/2 pad with 18" wheel (with 19" wheel, the fender gap would reduces to one finger) and factory shock. Surprisingly, the factory shock still tight after 14,000 miles on it after the car is lowered.

Linh, where did you get those 1/2 pads, and where are they installed, I have an idea where they go but where can I purchase them and who makes them? Thanks for your help. Also do you recommend replacing shocks and struts along with the lowering springs??

I have a 01 clk320.. Installed the H&R Sports and used dot 1 spring pads in the rear and the 01 E-Class dot 1 in the front.

You will see the lowest spring pads are Dot 2 for the CLK's at the dealer ....so I had to use the 01 E-Class dot 1 pads instead to make it even all around.. I compared the two pads before installation and they are identical..

Rides great and with stock shocks too...

2001CLK, I really like the way you have the rear lowered however I want the front to be lowered the same way, how can I achieve this? Can it be done by using the dot 2 pads in the front? Thanks for your help
