What does the R stand for in the new HRE wheel lineup?

It's a different rim profile from the standard series...it denotes a straight-lip rim profile as opposed to the standard beaded profile.

What they are doing is applying the 440 series rim on the 540 series.

the 540R series is targeted to the Porsche market.

HRE wheels are wonderful....I had them on my CLK 55...the first 55 fitment HRE did.

I went to the kinesis site and they have a new rim called a reverse drop, they say that the reverse drop uses a bigger center piece for a smaller lip, example: they have an 19" center piece for an 18" outer rim. Is this the same as the HRE 540R series?

yes and no. The face on an 18" 3 piece standard rim is actually 17". Now, with the reverse drop center, the rim flange gets moved to the back side (but now must be mounted face down, hence the "reverse"), so now the face can be a full 18". Most of your lorinser and brabus 2 piece rims (LM1, LM5, Monoblock V, VI) are reverse, as well as the AMG SL/CL 2 piece. The Brabus Monoblock IV, on the other hand, was a 3 piece standard (hence the gap between the rim flange and the rivets).

R = reverse
