Do bigger wheels require a bigger brake rotor? Like these guys that drive around in their Impala's and buick's with 24" wheels, are htey harder to stop if they don't upgrade their brakes? TIA

Not necessarily. Heavier wheels and tires require more stopping power. The need more HP to accellerate as well. Close to 1HP for every 5 pounds.

You need to look at all the variables not just the obvious one. Might have been more productive to say that you can fit larger brakes with larger rims and that would give you more power to stop. Which I am in favour of.

arcwelder, Here is some information to help you win that argument. Heavier wheel/tire setups do increase the car stopping distance. Putting 24 inchers on a car designed to run 14 incher is really dangerous.

It depends on alot of factors. I think the most important thing is the factory braking components and platform that you are starting with. If you have a e55 and upgrade from 18 to 19 or 20" then sure no upgrade or maybe just a slightly more aggressive pad will do the trick. But if we are talking a 1984 vehicle with 24" wheels then yes I would think some serious mods to the braking and suspension systems are in order. I would say the same applies to these mega SUV's with the 26 and 28" wheel packages.
