'97 E420 winter tire size?
Will the rims fit on our E420?
Can we get away with this tire size? Michelin X-Ice...225/55-17's?
They're bought and paid for.
The car has 170,000 klicks (about 105,000 miles) and we bought it for winter use only.
The summer tires are extemely slippery in the wet. They would be extremely unsafe for winter use. They're good enough to safety the vehicle when wesell it in the spring.

Now those tires and rims are bought and paid for. We have 4.
I guess you pays your money and takes your chances. At some tire stores anyway.

We changed our tires today. We kidded each other about the "tractor tires". I know that the tires affect the speedometer and gearing.According to the program at the Miata forum 60 mph is about 64 mph. We'll live with that.
We've both driven a lot in snow. I've been a ski instructor for 35 years. Simply an economical decision; and the tires worked really well on the SL last year.
