depends on the weather
hopefully you won't run into snow but, you may want to check into the Pilot Sport A/S which is an all season tire

Take I5 (boring but fast). You really shouldn't run into any snow; and if you do pull off for a pit stop until the roads are cleaned up or snow has stopped. I wouldn't spend the money on snows, A/S's, chains or anything else for the travel to Seattle. Once there if you decide you want to go where there may be snow? That's when you decide what to do for tires. DO NOT go with chains; if you're going to do alot of snow travel, then it's dedicated snows on dedicated rims; if it will be an occasional or light snow thing, then you should try some GOOD A/S's and see how you like 'em. Many people use A/S's year-round and are quite happy with them. I'm a dedicated snows kinda guy....

Agree with what is said above here... I have driven Seattle to San Jose at least 30 times in the past 12 years and never once had a snow problem. A lot of those trips were in the winter too!
