![Question](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I replace the standard rims on my 2002 CL600 with a set of Brabus 18" monoblock VI.
I had the unhappy experience of having a car wash scratch one up. I send the rim to a company call wheel collision center in Bath PA for refinishing. I used them in the past and been very happy with there work.
They told me that the alloy that they were made out of scratches easly. However on the plus side they were easy to refinish.
Has anybody had a similar experience?

18" vs 19" vs 20"
The CL came with 17". they were ugly - there are several post on this site that say the same thing.
I drive apx 2,500 mi per month. I drive between NY City, Boston, Phil, and DC. Lower profile rims / tires make the ride of the car harder, lower gas milage, and are more suspetiple to damage on rough roads (the roads in these cities are continiously being worked on). The car also handled ok on the 17".
For the above reasons I wanted to keep the 17". Brabus 17" are not load rated for the car (another long story). The 18" were. The ride quality is a little firmer (but it does handle better) , this is the first damage (and I hope the last), gas milage is about 1~2 mpg lower and most important - THE CAR LOOKS A LOT BETTER.

Did you have your car pulled through the car wash machine by the tire? I never had my rims scratched by a car wash machine before but i did have an idiot dry my rims with a towel that had some pebbles in it.

Car Washes
I have had the car washed at automated car washes in the past without a problem.
I was on my way to work and passed one I normaly do not go (and never will again). It has a very sharp left turn to enter it. The track has some sort of mechinism to straighten the car on the track. Well it straighted it on the track all right but scratch up the rim in the process.
Yesterday I went to my normal place and told them what happened. The guy who runs the pre and dry crew told me he use to work at the place and it happens a lot. JUST WHAT I WANTED TO HEAR :~(. While the owner said he would pay for the refinishing it does not make me very happy.
