W211 rims grafted to W210 car
fitting a W211 AMG rim to my W210.
W211 uses....
17mm hex head
14mm radius ball seat
14mm diam bolt
25mm threaded shank
W210 uses....
17mm hex head
12mm radius ball seat
12mm diam bolt
36mm threaded shank
The cross section of the W211 wheel is quite a bit thinner than the W210,
ergo the much shorter bolt.
I wanted the E55 rim on my 1999 E320 but given the thinner wheel, the
thicker bolt, as well as the larger ball seat, such an adaptation was
problematic. Enter OtisInc of California, who machines hybrid bolt for
the W210....BUT.....sized with 14mm ball seat and 24mm shank. (otisincla.com)
Afternoon of driving around and testing by seat of pants gives this a good
thumbs up. No red flags, vibrations, etc noted. Factoring in shipping, the
price for 20 bolts came to a little under $3 each. I've seen other posts on
MB boards in which similarly sized custom bolts were upwards of $10 each
so it goes to show how costs decrease once already tooled up the part
becomes regular production vs custom job.
okay, got my W211 AMGs installed in my W210, using the
hybrid RAD bolts. here are the results.

Driving impressions: hint of more road feel.
noticeable pavement joints but not objectionable.
body roll was attenuated by 1/2 (seat of pants gauge) and
I was extremely happy to discover this. it rolled like
a boat riding the waves hours before. now it much more
sure footed and planted. can be thrown into a turn
with more enthusiasm and far less pitching and rolling.
whereas previously, I had on my list Bilstein
shocks, I'll skip them for now. amazing how much the
shorter sidewall helped to improve in this area.
Tires which came with the rims were Conti Sport Contact
2s in 265-35-18 in back, and 245-40-18 fronts. Rims
were 8 front, and 8.5 rear. No rubbing, no clicking,
and the tires were quiet on this short test.
looks like i'm looking for something like #1 pads now.
