Offsets will depend on the width of the wheels. 8.5x18 with a 31 offset running 225/40R18 all around will make it sit flush with the fenders in the front and no mods will be necessary. If you run staggered, the rear fitment would be 9.5x18 ET31 (255/35R18) and fender rolling in the rear is highly recommended to prevent any possible rubbing issues.

depends on the weather
30 - 35 millemeter offset would be required ... as Ken said with the 31 front it would be flush with the fender but, unlike Ken I think 35 is a better fit in the rear

Pic

Here is a pic of how ET31 with 8.5x18 and 9.5x18 will sit with 225/40R18 and 255/35R18 tires. The car has also been lowered approximately 30mm. 8.5x18 ET31 in the rear will sit about 0.5 inches more inward. 8.5x18 ET35 in the rear will sit approximately 0.66 inches more inward.

depends on the weather
so, how does 4mm = .66" ... and the comments were based on a staggered setup and it sure looks like those rear tires would rub under suspension compression

Hi Luke, I was basing the 0.66" and 0.5" as a comparison of the wheels in the image with the 8.5x18 non-staggered setup that John was initially asking for in his posting so he can visualize how 8.5x18 ET31 and 8.5x18 ET35 will look on his W203. As you know, where the outside edge of where a wheel sits depends on both width and offset.

I got my figures this way:

9.5x18 ET31 vs. 8.5x18 ET31: 1" difference in width, same offset. As offset is a measurement relative to the center line of the wheel, and the 8.5" width wheel is 1" narrower than a 9.5" wheel, running non staggered will sit 0.5" more inward.

9.5x18 ET31 vs, 8.5x18 ET35: Will sit 4mm more inward than 8.5x18 ET31. 8.5x18 ET31 in the rear sits 0.5" more inward than the rear wheels in the picture. 4mm = 0.16". 0.5" (9.5x18 ET31 vs. 8.5x18 ET31) + 0.16" ( 8.5x18 ET31 vs. 8.5x18 ET35) = 0.66" (where 8.5x18 ET35 will sit compared to the rear wheel in the picture)
