Brakes at Stealership?

So, at 54k miles, I am pretty darned sure that my 2000 E430 4matic needs brake rotors. Had pads at 35k. I drive hammer-down all the time, so I expect such wear and tear. Questions:

-I can feel the car vibrating when stopping, and stopping distance is definitely affected; should I expect a sensor to tell me when I need new rotors or should I just replace them anyway?

-Is this something a non-Benz tech could do? My buddy who works with Audi wants to help me out with the brakes, but I'm a bit reluctant. Should I be, if he buys the parts from MB?

I am inclined to simply trust the fellas at my Service Dept. to do the work, just to insure that no sensors get damaged or anything. Should I bite the bullet at the dealership or should I save some money to put towards my E500 4matic?

I'd really appreciate any advice on this one!

The vibration when stopping is an indication that the rotors are warped. The are no sensors for the rotors, only for the pads.

Disk brakes are disk brakes. I wouldn't be surprised if MB and Audi don't puchase them from the same suppliers. If you friend is qualified to work on Audi brakes, he is qualified to work on MB brakes.

The pad wear sensors are simple and cheap and should be replaced whenever the pads are changed. So far as I know, all pad sensors work on the same principle. Save your money. As I said above, If your friend is qualified to work on Audi brakes, he is qualified to work on Mercedes brakes. Now if there were an issue involving the anti-lock system, I would take it to an MB specialist.
