AMG CL 18" wheels on E430 Sport?

AMG CL 18" wheels on E430 Sport?
I have a 1999 E430 Sport with the stock 17" wheels.
I got a good deal on a beautiful set of AMG 18" wheels. I'm told they came off a 2003 CL. The new wheels are 8.5" front with ET 44 offset and 9.5" rear with ET 46 offset. Lugs are 5 x 112mm.
At the tire shop today, we determined that the rears appear that they will fit while the offset on the fronts will require spacers, if they are to fit at all. The tire guy said not to put spacers on and to pass on the wheels.
Any thoughts on this? Thank you for your help.
