TECH HELP: Lowering a W209 w/ H&R Springs

I am Lowering my buddys clk500 on some h&r's but i never really wrenched on these kinds of suspensions before. I mostly worked on the regular coil spring suspension installs, but this is my first time working on the mcphearson style strut/spring. The things that confuse me is that the style of syspensiono does not have any bolts on the top of the strut/spring that hold it to the frame. Should the spring be compressed first before removing the whole spring/strut unit? Can anyone direct me to a DIY site or thread. I searched but wasnt very lucky on finding anything.

you remove the strut assembly, then compress the spring and remove it.

is there bolts at the top that unbolt the assembly from the chassis?
