Questions regards to using spacers...more
I am thinking about having to use the 5-10mm spacers for the front wheels (18x8.5") carlsson 2/5s. Rear fits just fine.
Anythoughts on good and bad about spacers:
1. who makes the best spacers?
2. Negatives effects on handling, safety, performance etc.
3. How does the spacer work? Does it bolt onto the wheel? etc...
4. Is it safe to use spacers?
Any opinion is appreciated...
Thanks

2. I would imagine it throws off the geometry of the car, but don't know for sure
3. The spacer sits between the wheel and the hub, you put your lugs right through it when bolting up the wheel
4. I assume they are safe at reasonable speeds
Sorry for the 'soft' answers, but wanted to help a bit.
BTW I have 12mm spacers on the rear of my CLK.

i would not recommend spacers in the front, but i have soem on mine. they are only 3mm pacers, very thin. i have tried a 10mm and i had vibrations at certain speeds. i guess it all depends on the spacers you use. the 10mm i had were shady though so you might have better luck with another pair.

A properly designed spacer (I only recommend H&R, as they are TUV approved & hubcentric) should be just like bolting your wheel up to the stock hub. With stock brakes, you should have plenty of hub left over, so either will be fine. Measure how much room you have from the tire to the fender (horizontal). This will give you an idea of how far you can bring the wheels out.

If you can't fit at least a 10mm spacer, I wouldn't do it. Less than 10mm doesn't leave enough metal to be able to produce a truely hubcentric spacer. It should be 10mm+ or none.
