17'' vs 18'' question about weight

I was told that 17'' rims with tires weighs less than 18'' with tires because hte 18'' tires actually have less rubber and is MUCH lighter than the 17'' tire.

more specifitcally

17x 8 with 225/45/17 vs 18x8 with 225/40/18

Anyone thinking this is BS or is it true?

it really depends on what tires and what wheels...

an 18" OZ superleggera weights 18 pounds, but an 17" AMG from a CLK430 weights 24 pounds....

sorry if i did not answer your question, but it would be better if you specify which wheels and tires you were looking at.

Any wheel will work.. as long as they are the same make
with 17'' vs 18''

Im more worried about the weight of the wheel (including tire).

As long as they are the same wheel + tire 17 vs 18.

I just wanted to know which one weighed more. I have been told my some ppl that 18'' Rim + tire weighs LESS TO OR EQUAL to 17'' rim + tire.

18'' rim and Tire weighing less because it has less rubber

General rule of thumb is that for the same model rim, an 18" rim with tires still weighs MORE than a 17" rims with tires. There may be exceptions (if the rims are ridiculously light to begin with, for example -- then what you save in tire weight going from a 17" tire to an 18" tire may actually be more than the weight gain in the rims), but unless that's the case, those people are feeding you horses***. Have them break the bathroom scale out and prove it to you.
