Fitting 17" AMG Wheels to standard 1996 C200 Esprit

I have just bought a set of wheels from a C36 AMG to fit onto my 1996 C200 Esprit (They come with the "sport" suspension which is slightly lower than standard). The tyres fitted were 225/45/17s for the front and 255/40/17s for the back mounted on 7.5x17 wheels on the front and 8.5x17s on the back. I knew that the back tyres where a little on the large size as they should be 245/40/17s if I am right. Anyway, the wheels fitted on fine and I took it for test run. everything seemed OK but later on I soon realised that with 2 passengers if you ride over any bumps then the rear tyres rub. I changed the two rears for a new pair of 245/40/17 goodyear eagle F1s, and to no avail, it still rubs over bumps. It may also seem strange but the LHS seems to rub the most.
Does anyone have any experience or ideas to help me with this as I do not want to cause any damage to the car or tyres, and if there are any modifications I need to make? Any advice most appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
William
