Wheel/Tire Change Before or After Winter?
Should i put on new tires and new wheels before or after winter???... i'm afraid of hurting the new wheels but the new tires will add to snow traction and wet traction... Right now i'm on my stock 16's with the Michelin Mxv4's.... The mxv4's suck in wet traction.... while in snow.. i'm not as confident.... i'll be driving a lot more during the winter and would like the added reassurance of having a good tire on my car.... BTW the tires i'm changing to are Sumitomo HTR+ with a 17 inch wheel....

if those michelin's r fairly worn out...i'd change to winter tires and put those on the 16" or whatever u have right now. bridgestone has some very good snow tires. as for the 17" plus sumitomo, put them on in spring (or whenever the snow melts). if u r ever required to put chains on, get cables. cables have a lower profile. u'd prob need the extra tire thickness for snow anyway, it's just easier on them than 17"

I guess Steve is right, if the traction on wet surface is bad dont expect this being any better in snow or sludge.
If you driving a lot under winter conditions get yourself a set of snowtires on cheap (steel) rims and put back the nice once in spring. Considering the investment and compare it with a fendor bender or even more loosing grip on icy roads, it's by far the cheaper version to have a set of snow tires.
