CLK tire size question for Luke
Luke,
I've often seen that the 235/35/19front and 265/30/19 rear are the correct size for an 04 CLK. How come tirerack suggests 255/30/19 rear?
Will there be any problem going with the 265 vs. 255?

There are any variables that go into the answer for you question and some of them are more important than others but, I will give you the facts and the reasons for the websites recommendation
#1.) a CLK320 uses a 24.9" tall tire from the factory
#2.) 225/35-19 and 255/30-19 are 25.0" tall
#3.) 235/35-19 and 265/30-19 are 25.5" tall
#4.) the load capacity of the 225/255 tire sizes can safely support the 320 but, not the 430 as the larger engine weighs more.
#5.) AMG cars like the CLK55 have rolled fenders from the factory to allow for more tire clearance.
Since artificial intelligence is not a reality at the time of this posting the website does not have the ability to make recommendations based on appearance or performance it can only go with what is programmed and all programs are based on numbers.
in the end the computer says 25.0" is closer to 24.9" than 25.5" and the 225/255 combo does meet load capacity ...

If others have any experience with 235/35 - 19 front and 265/30 - 19 rear mounted on 8.5" x 19, 32mm offset front, and 9.5" x 19, 35mm offset rear wheels, please provide your comments.....

if you want to run a 265/30-19 in the rear of trhe car the 235/35-19 would be the correct front size ... that combo does work on the CLK (both 208 and 209 versions) but, you may need to roll the rear fender lip unless you have an AMG version which comes from the factory with rolled lips ....
if you have your CLK lowered aggressively the 225/35-19 front and 255/30-19 rear work better but, only if you have a 6 cylinder motor as the V8 need more load capacity
again thanks for pointing out the database prob

i've also noticed this, from when i got my CLk 500 back in 2004 till about a few months ago, tirerack always recomended a 265 on the back for a 9.5 rim now it's 255.
