Time to buy new tires

I posted this in another thread but it got jumped over and not replied to. Maybe it wasn't seen so I made a new thread for it here. Can anyone help ?

I'm wearing down my tires so I have to change them in the next few days now. I've never really worried about winter tires since I've always lived in Florida or Texas and snow is a 2 day thing per year at the most and by the afternoon it's all gone.

However the rain has me researching tires now. Last week I was driving from Clovis, New Mexico home to the Dallas area in rain around 60MPH with the cruise control on. I started to fishtail and did everything right regarding steering wheel control but I forgot to turn off the cruise control. Three full turns later I was in a cotton field off the side of the road. Nothing hurt except for my ego and my wallet ($125 towing fee to pull me onto the road again).

So I need new tires for my OEM rims. I currently have TOYO Potenza4 225-45-ZR17 in front and TOYO Potenza4 245-40-ZR17 in the rear. Even with dry highways I don't drive over 90mph anymore so I don't think I need ZR and they really aren't lasting me more than 15,000 miles before they're worn out and I have to change them. I think these Texas roads are too hard on them and eat them up too quickly.

Can I get a tire that isn't loud and can last longer than these and still has rain traction ? Do I need winter tires ? What are my options ? HELP !

Your best bet will be a summer tire, since they are usually much better than all seasons except in snow (obviously). Even though you may not drive that fast, you should still stick with a high performance tire. I would reccomend Pirelli PZero Rosso for your car, since they have front and rear matching sets in OEM size.

Thanks for your reply. For some reason I wrote Potenza when in reality my tires are TOYO PROXES4. Some have emailed me directly saying the FUZION is a good tire too so at least I'm getting some options.

I'm still waiting to hear from Luke on this or the other thread since I'm going to have to order them by mail because nobody has anything in stock these days.

I am loving my Michelin Pilot HX Mxm4s. They are great in the weather and should last a lot longer for you. Some don't like them as they are not the stickiest tires in the world but they do last a while.

The Michelin Pilot MXM is a soft-ride tire. Not performance oriented.

I recently purchased a set of Falken FK452's. Ride, comfort, noise, traction wet and dry are much better than the Conti sport contract 2.

Done

Well I was waiting for Luke to give me his opinion since I was going to have to order them online but I see he's been buy answering others and hasn't gotten around to my question. I'll just find some local shop and stimulate the local economy.

Thanks to all who gave me their opinions, I appreciate your time.
