front tyre wear

I have also posted this on the W124 forum.......

Hello all,

I have a 1994 280E with 230k kilometres on the clock. The front drivers side tyre occasionally makes contact with the fender upon hitting a bump when when turning into a low speed corner. A driveway with a pronounced kerb will do it.

The suspension has been checked out and the side that scrapes is about 1 inch lower than spec. The other side is OK.

Tyres on 16 inch mag rims are standard size.

I find it hard to believe that this could be caused by a 1 inch drop in ride height. Anyone have any ideas??

Only that side of the car is lower? or is the whole car lower?

only that side is lower. Apparently the spring has sagged and the shock absorbers are tired - they still the originals.

The wheels are 16" 5 hole alloys similiar to those on the green car in your pic.

Did this happen all of a sudden or has this happened over along period of time? I find it strange that it would only happen on one side of the car. I can understand front or rear, left side or right side, but not one corner of the car. you should check for a broken spring or spring mount or upper strut mount, that seems weird.

If the car has high mileage on it then it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to change all the springs and shocks/struts
