tire suggestions please
I"m looking for a new set of tires for my 06 E 500 4matic - I'd like a quiet, reasonably high performance tire, although I can't get out and drive autobahn speeds with any regularity unfortunately. I'd prefer an all season tire that's capable in rain as well as snow as I do cross mountain passes during the winter though I don't want a winter only tire. I am not a high mileage driver so wear is not a big issue. I drive less than 10K miles a year in this car and mostly used for 1000 mile trips -
The oem tire size is 245 45 17 (or is it 16?)- I do not want to change wheels as I like the oem wheel but would be open to a tire size difference if there is a compelling enough reason that works with the existing wheel.

I'm very pleased with the highway and All Season performance with the ContiExtreemContacts on our E430 4Matic.
Stay away from the Michilin Energy MXV4 if you care at all about winter performance. Great tire but has horrible traction in the snow or ice.

x2 for ContiExtremeContacts. I just got rid of my set that was shot on my wife's S500. They lasted 16k miles of normal driving with a few hard corners here and there. I just checked on the tire rack and they are only 140 dollars each. Not a bad deal imho...

16K miles - that's pretty insane - even with hard and high speed driving -
Year ago I had ContiContacts on my BMW 7 series - worst tire I ever owned - I'll check out the tire guys today -
