Bridgestone RE-11 or Z1 Star Spec for W211 E55
Luke or anyone else,
It's time to buy 2 rear tires for my 2006 E55. Which tire do you recommend will provide better traction since i'm having a hard time launching?
1. Bridgestone's new RE-11
2. Dunlop's Direzza Z1 Star Spec
The Bridgestone is $30 more per tire so not a huge difference.
2nd question, the stock rim is 18 x 9 with a tire size of 265x35x18. Can I push a 275x35x18 or higher? If so, what's the largest/widest I can push it safely?
Thanks,
Josh

I did not go with the 275's.
The reason? A 275 vs a 265 has a wider section width of .39". Once the section height of the tire wraps around the 9" wide rim, I would lose some of that section width, thus reducing the over all section a little. So a gain of .39" wrapped on a narrower width rim diminishes the gains.
So there is very little to gain if any at the end of the day.

Scroll down to the "Rim Width Range" and "Measuring Rim Width" for more details.

To do it right i'll get the right Rim Width to match the Tire Width i'm trying to achieve.

Josh

depends on the weather
I just completed testing the RE11, AD08, Z1 Star Spec and the Ecsta XS and I woulod give the overall win to the RE11 due to it's superior road manners but the Yokohama was slightly faster on our test track. The Dunlop has met it's match in ultimate performance slipping to 4th
in my subjective opinion combining both street manners and track performance I would rank them in this order.
#1.) Bridgestone Potenza RE11
#2.) Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08
#3.) Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec
#4.) Kumho Ecsta XS
admittedly the Yokohama was .2 seconds faster on our test track but, I liked the way the RE11 drove on the streets slightly better
