Request for Information - Wheels fitment between classes.

Ok, here's my request. In the wheels for sale section I contanstanly people ask if wheels from an SL for example will fit an E. So...could someone who knows do a little write up about what wheels fit what classes?

For instance, I'm looking for wheels that fit my CL, what other wheels will fit?

No flame, but a lot of it depends on offset.

Tirerack has a good explanation on offset. Just go to their site.

It's not the offset I don't understand, it's what offset do each class of cars use that I don't know. I'm sure you can shove about anything you want under it (either with spacers, or the go cart look, etc)...but as far as fitting properly, that's my question.

Made up info: Say my CL uses 45mm offset with an 8" wheel, then in theory when I go to a 9" wheel then in theory I'd need 33mm offset, if I didn't want the wheel to stick out any further, right?

Assuming the above is correct, then I can figure out what offsets will work on my car; what I don't know is, what is the factory offset of each class and what is the widest wheel you can run without the tire/wheel sticking out.

Members have listed the proper offsets, the bolt sizes, etc on this forum. You can also go to the tirerack site and input different MB models, their MY and see the wheels picked by the tirerack site and their specs. A little bit of time on your end provides a lot faster answers, knowledge, than a blanket posting such as this thread. Members won't really know where to begin its so vague.
