Track Tire Set up
I am looking to put a set of R compound tires on a spare set of AMG wheels(fronts 18x8.5 rears 18x9). The fitment guides allow up to a 255 up front and a 275 in the rear. Would this be the ideal size to go with for a road course setup?

Pilot Sport Cup
235/40-18f
265/35-18r
BF Goodrich G-Force R1
245/40-18f
275/35-18r
the Sport Cups are not as extreme as the BFG's but, you can drive them to the track.

I have been tracking on my stock 18's with P-Zeros 245.40.18 F and 265.35.18R. Was trying to stay with street tires for a kind of purist (misguided) reason. They actually perform extremely well but the need for more grip has me looking for a DOT approved R compound as well. I know Tire Rack doesn't carry Toyo but the R888 is worth a look. I have a set on order for when the P-Zeros give out. Probably another 2 or 3 track days. Going to go 245.40.18F and 275..35.18R

The tire I am leaning towards is the Kumho Ecsta XS which is not a true R compound tire but has most of the qualities at a great price. It dominated the dry performance category in the Car and Driver comparison and is very streetable for longer journeys to the track. I paid close attention to a particular review written by someone with a 425rwhp car who experiences zero wheel spin when accelerating. This would be great if the rears would serve well at the drag strip as well.
