S Class Rim Specs
I was wondering what the specs are for the 2000 S500. Such as offset... Also what would be the largest (width, height) tire I could put on this car? Currently I have 18x8.5 front and 18x9.5 rear. How does this compare to the W140 model specs, such as offset? Been seeing a lot of wheels which state they fit S classes from 92-2003 with a 38 offset. Someone please clarify, Thanks.

If you understand tires sizes you do not increase the overall height of the tire. When changing to new setup you keep the Overall Diamater in height the same.
If you have AMG Sport Package wheels:
18X8.5 et44
18X9.5 et46

I understand fully, but I want to cushion my rims as much as possible. Wondering how big I can go without rubbing or getting too out of spec. Driving in NYC is hazardous to your rims...

You can not "cushion" those 18" wheels. As stated you can not increase the Overall Diameter of the tires height. You can not add any more tire sidewall to those 18" rims and remain in specification.
Your only option to increase your sidewall is to decrease your rim size. You would have to use 17 or 16" wheels in order to add more "cushion".
