Luke: Continental ExtremeContact DSW

Luke,

re: Mercedes C240, 2001
re: Continental ExtremeContact DSW

If I wanted to install these tires because of the glowing ratings and all around characteristics. And coming from Michelin MXV4 Primacy — Which I really liked. And because the Continental's are out of stock, would you have a complementary recommendation, but not the MXV4?

Thanks
-Alan

I had both the Bridgestone 960RE and Pilot Sport A/S. I do not recommend both of them at all. Here is why: Bridgestone RE960 vibrated badly and could not be balanced, were harsh over bumps even with lower PSI than the car recommended and felt very numb in steering. I switched them out for the Pilot Sport A/S after 3 weeks. The pilot sports where smoother but pulled constantly to the left, had to replace 2 tires after 2 months due to tire separation, they were terrible in snow and had too much road feel and noise.

Finally, I got the Michelin Primacy MXV4 which are by far the best tires I have ever had. So smooth, sporty, and quiet. They are also amazing in the snow and on rough roads. Go back to the Primacy and you won't be disappointed,

sorry you experienced problems but, those experiences are far from the norm.

The one thing that does stand out though is your comments on the Pilot Sport AS. When that tire first came out it did have issues with 'radial pull' on many MB models. So much so that Mercedes Benz issued a TSB regarding them. The issue was quickly resolved by Michelin. That said and while they do look similar the Michelin Pilot Sport AS+ is a completely different tire and replaces the original Pilot Sport AS
