Wheel and tire weight
18" AMG monoblock 18x8 fr 27.5lb
18" AMG monoblock 18x9 rr 28.6lb
Michelin Pilot Sport 245/40-18 24.0lb
Bridgestone S-03 245/40-18 27.5lb
Michelin Pilot Sport 275/35-18 26.2lb
Bridgestone S-03 275/35-18 29.0lb
I had Michelin Pilot Sports as supplied from MB and currently uses S-03s. Although the S-03 feels better when cold and also rides better, I am not excited with the added weight.
Looks like I am going back to either Pilot Sports or Toyo T1-S when my S-03 runs out. However, above data shows that going to forged wheels in 20lbs range will generate major weight saving. The effect being pronounced on the driving (rear) wheel.
I know the BBS LM, OZ Superleggera, SSRs and the RennTech forged are in the range but I am still waiting for disc or wider spokes look.
Luke, are you listening????
I can tell you that the effect of the unsprung weight reduction is something that you can feel especially going over road surface imperfections. The car seems to have less jiggles. The body of the car is less affected by the surface imperfections
Weight:
18" AMG monoblock w/S03pp Fr: 55.9lb Rr:57.6lb
18" RennTech w/Toyo T1S Fr: 44.8lb Rr:46.8lb
You get approximately 7lb off from the RennTechs and 4lb off from the Toyos
I have to admit that I still like the look of the AMG monoblocks slightly better than the RennTechs. Discs just look better on the E-class
