LUKE....or anyone - Gritty Breaking @ Smoke from pads
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am currently using new Akebono pads and centric rotors front and rear from Tire Rack. When braking hard they feel a touch gritty. Does that make sense / sound familiar to anyone?
I also noticed the other day that after braking hard there as strong odor and there was a nice plume of smoke from my fronts? Is that a danger sign? Normal? Just want to be sure I'm safe here and not rollin around town an accident waiting to happen!
As always,
Thanks for your knowledge.

depends on the weather
ceramic pads are low dust quiet brake pads. what you are describing is a need for a higher performance level friction material ... look into a set of Hawk HPS pads

I can only relate my experiences. My Carbotech's smoked like I had locked up all four wheels when I bedded them in. After the bedding in they don't smoke, smell, fade etc. they just stop like crazy. The Porterfield's I had before the Carbotech's didn't smoke during the bedding in process but they had a real strong smell. After the bedding in they were fine. I don't know if it's necessary to bed in the Akebono pads or not but it's worth a try if you can find a safe area to do it.
