offset info on amg rims

Im thinking of buying some new wheels and tires, a set. They came off of a 2008 Mercedes C300 . here are the specs....

Front Wheels: 7.5JX17, offset 47mm, tire (225/45/17) Mercedes PN# A2044010502
Rear Wheels: 8.5JX17, offset 58mm, tire (245/40/17) Mercedes PN# A2044010302
The tires are the same size as mine are (225/45/17) (245/40/17) Not really sure what offset means..Would really appreciate some help on this, thanks, heres a pic.

I have a 2000 clk 430. with the regular amg rims, im not even sure what the offset is on the current rims i have. I just recently learned what the offset means.

Don't know if those would fit your car but here is a little help with offset

Rim offset, more accurately referred to as wheel offset, is the distance from the hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel. If this measurement isn't suited to the specific vehicle, the vehicle won't handle as it should.

Wheel offset measurement is defined in three different ways. Zero offset occurs when the hub mounting surface is completely even with the centerline of the wheel. Positive offset means that the hub mounting surface is toward the front of the wheel, while negative offset means the surface is toward the back or brake side of the wheel.

On the back of all AMG and most MB wheels, the sizes are cast into the wheel. I looked up in the Wheel list for W208's and it appears that there are several AMG offerings for that type, and in different sizes, see link..

http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/inf.../mercedes-benz

One thing that jumps out is that most of the wheel sizes in that chart have an ET in the 30's. The ET's of the wheels your thinking about are a long ways off from the 30's.

If you have staggered wheels, pull 1ea front & back and record the sizes cast into the wheels.. if they are not staggered, just pull one and your good.

Another good link is here, plug in stock sizes on the left, then play with new sizes on the right to see how compatible the new wheels might be. Not 100% perfect, but gives you a good indication of wheels NOT to buy. The set your looking at may not be a good fit for you.

http://www.rimsntires.com/rt_specs.jsp

I compared the stocked setup from the list to the ones your looking at and they may be too close to the suspension, came out to be .4 inches closer in front and 1.3 inches closer in the back. The back wheels may actually hit the suspension.

For reference the list says the same setup rim sizes and tire sizes do have a big different in ET.

Stock ET for front AMG is 37, stock rear ET is 34 (in the list), look on the actual wheels to confirm.
