E320 Lorinser wagon "sway/lean"

hi all,

here's my car that i'm going to get some 17 or 18" wheels on soon...still debating on comfort vs. performance.

http://www.gkautos.com/00e320wagon.htm

my question is what's causing my car to "sway" or "lean" when i'm changing lanes or going around a long bend? the shocks seem to be fine, and in panic situations the car actually performs quite well. it's just that the initial movement of the car in anything but a straight line seems to make the car "lean" or "sway"...wondering if anyone could explain this or suggest a solution. obviously getting 45 series tires will help the Lorinser suspension, but do i need sway bars or new shocks?
thx.

patrick

You can Only Upgrade The FRONT Shocks on The W210 Wagon Since the rear Has Self level units..Not a Standard Shock.
I used H/R Spring set with #1bump/notch front and rear With Sport Shocks (In The Front) With 18s On My W210Wagon
It Still has lean on corners..But its Much Better
I Will be Installing E55T AMG Sway bars soon..to see if it will help?

To Help You On The Lean Question...The Tall OE Tires..Soft Shocks/Springs..Are The Answer.

E320 Wagon f/u on sway/lean

mark,

thx for your input. look fwd to your f/u when you add the E55 sway bars.

coincidentally, i was down in your neighborhood this past wknd dining at arches restaurant and cruised by huntington beach a bit when i took the wrong turn. it was on jamboree from irvine to PCH that i noticed the lean quite a bit...so i'm looking fwd to new wheel/tires. i do get a slight buzz from my sunroon interior shade, so i'm wondering what your set up is on the 18" wheel/tires for size as well as your input. thx.

it's a trade-off. comfy ride vs performance handling. for comfy ride, small sway bar diameters, soft shocks and soft springs, long suspension travel, tall tire sidewalls...which leads to tipsy turvy lean and poor response. for great handling, u get fatter sway bars, stiffer shocks and springs, shorter tire walls...u get great cornering, but ur kidneys will need transplant every so often.

easiest thing to do is the upgrade of sway bars...that's what they're designed to do, keep lean/sway/body movement of the car at a minimum. keep in mind tho, the larger u go...the less "independent" movement ur suspension will become, and will also result in a less compliant ride.

hey, the benz chassis is already ultra stiff, so the compromises aren't as bad as say, on a nissan
