1995 C280 - How big can I go?

G'day

I'm looking at replacing my 17" Monoblock II's with some 18" or possibly even 19" wheels.

I've checked the galleries on the site and there are some truly funky cars out there with huge wheels and I've just gotta join them!

Question - What are the maximum widths I can go without requiring any bodywork (rolling the fenders/guards)? Also, what size tyre do I use to match the wheels?

Also, any ideas about the offsets that I'm dealing with?

Cheers
George

Giorgo, wuzup! The perfect size wheel/tire combo that you can put on your car in my opinion is this: 19X8.5 with a 35mm offset all the way around on 235/35/19 tires. You might have to do a slight rolling of the front fenders depending how low your car is but the back should not rub at all. I have Carlssons with this same set up on my 97 E420 and they came off of a C class just like yours. I don't have any rubbing issues on the front or back of my car and I could easily have gone with 10" rims in the back, but I wanted to be able to rotate my tires so I chose 8.5's all around. Here is a pic...

if u must know...amg did some fender work on the w202 to enable 17x7.5 front and 17x8.5 rear to fit without rubbing. my friend had some 17x7.5 all around and noticed rubbing on full lock in the front on his 1995 c280 (which he later got also an amg bodyki, amg exhaust, and amg badge...and removed the 0...so it read c28 amg )..

Thanks guys,
My Monoblocks are 17x8 and I had no rubbing while running with 225x45's but now I've got rubbing with my 235x45's (but only while reversing in full lock to the left!)

Yiasou George, Hristos Anestie by the way. No, you don't need a kindney belt (lol) or anything, my ride is actually nice, not really rough at all. I lowered my Benz about 1.4" using H&R Sport springs and Bilstein Sport shocks so I have great handling, less rolling and a more responsive ride. I don't know what my spring pad sizes are yet but I am going to find out soon because the car sits too even, almost about a 1/4" or so lower in the rear so I want to change the spring pads in the front to bring it down about a 1/4"-1/2" lower. Also, you mentioned that your 8" wheels are fine with 225's but you get a little rubbing with 235's in the front. Well, I guess I was pretty close as 8.5's in the front on 235's will fit just fine (as they did for my friend) with some minor fender rolling. Post some pics. of your ride when you have a chance. Later...
