HELP Luke, need wheel education

Luke or anyone who can help,

I've been searching for wheels for my 92 300E and its been difficult finding the right fitment. I want 17" wheels with the proper offset so the wheels don't stick out pass the fenders and quarter panels. I have a few questions so I can figure out what to buy:

1. What is the stock offset?
2. What offset can I go to without the wheels sticking out pass the wheel wells? More neg. right?
3. Can I go with 17x8?
4. I found 2 sets of wheels I'm interested in, both original Mercedes wheels:

ML wheels - 17x7.5, 5x112 bolt pattern, 35 offset
S Wheels - 17x.7.5, 5x112 bolt pattern, 46 offset

Any help is appreciated so I can make the an educated decision.

Thanks
Alan

depends on the weather
#1.) OE wheels are 15x6.5 ET42
#2.) 35mm - 40mm
#3.) NO 7.5" width is the max for a w124
#4A.) ML wheels = not a good choice + wrong center bore
#4B.) S-Class wheels = not a good choice + wrong offset
