235/45-17 vs. 215/50-17 (Pics)

Needing new tires, and really disliking the bulge that was occuring with the OEM 235/45-17 tires on the OEM 17x7.5 rims, I opted for 215/50-17 tires, which provide the same overall diameter as the 235/45-17's. Since this is my mom's car, I wasn't concerned with the loss of treadwidth, since she doesn't drive like a maniac...anymore.

Anyways, here we go. Here's a pic of the OEM tires...

Pic #1 of the new tires. Sumitomo HTR+ in 215/50-17, and I think they don't bulge out quite as much. You decide.

do the new tires ride better? seems they have a larger sidewall.. maybe its because on the first pics the airmatic (?) was so high.

don't think the W210's had an airmatic option.....
the tire almost does look like it has a higher sidewall;
does it ride better? even though they're only 17's, my 99 430 sport tracks sometimes. The tracking was actually 100 times better after I replaced the eagle F1's with pilot sport A/S's.....

Sorry, the pics of the OEM tires were when the car was jacked up, which is why the suspension looks so high.

Well, the ride is a lot better, but I suspect that's due to the wheels/tires being freshly balanced. The one thing I'm really pleased about is that the roar/whine of the OEM tires are gone -- the new Sumis are really nice and quiet.
