Centering Rings v. Hub-centric Wheels

Luke,
I have shunned aftermarket wheels with centering rings because they seem to be inferior to hub-centric wheels. Is there a difference in quality, manufacture, durability, strength, or other important characteristic?

I see centering rings used on lower priced wheels more often than the high-end wheels. However, I just saw a BBS wheel that uses a centering ring.

What gives?

Jeff.

Hub Ring or Hub Centric

BBS and OZ and a few other companies did that so the wheels fit multiple cars .. i feel that "pre-made" hub rings are not so great .. the best thing to do is have a machine shop measure the bore of the wheel for an exact fit. I have seen wheels that are supposed to be a 73.1 center bore, and they are actually 73.2 or 73.0 ... Have billet rings made to fit exactly .. the correct size metal hub ring is as good as a hub centric wheel .. my 2 cents
