Storing wheel/tires off of car?

Storing wheel/tires off of car?
I have my winter set of wheels/tires in my garage, and it occured to me that I may not be storing these properly until it is time to put them back on for winter.
Anyone know of the preffered way to store wheels/tires while they are off the car?
Right now they are horizontally stacked flat on each other but I don't know if that will damage the sidewall over time or not.
I was thinking about making a rack on the garage wall that would sort of cradle them in a vertical position.
what do you all think?
